Wombat

Petra snapped at the heels, demanding to be fed. A bottle came from above, arms surrounded her and she sucked at the plastic teat. After lunch, she followed the heels out into the wild. They entered into unfamiliar territory. The heels walked in front. The heels stopped.

‘Off you go, Petra.’

With sturdy legs and claws, she ambled around. Now and then she checked the heels were still in place. She went further out. She returned. On a return visit, the heels were missing. She panicked. The heels returned quickly.

‘So Petra, you’re not quite ready yet. Let’s go home.’
