It means many things to many people and to me it’s simply the place I was born, the environment I was raised in and the people, culture and values I’ve come to know.
The lens I view through is ‘Australian’ and it is also realistic and so I’ve accepted the warts along with the beauty spots.
As a writer I will obviously be writing through that lens but it’s important that I try and borrow other lenses so that I can broaden my views to give my stories substance, variety and embrace other cultures, many of which I can enhance the worlds I build and give depth to my characters. And, it’s good for me too.
